COURSE OVERVIEW: In person discussion, power point instruction, and scenario-based learning of Trauma and Suicide in the Law Enforcement Community. This course will also consist of examining Suicide Psychological Autopsy cases that reveal the risk factors present, and the diminished/absent protective factors of actual Law Enforcement suicide cases. The information presented will provide individuals with an understanding of the manifestation of suicide ideation and the importance of self-care for a more proactive approach. Information on various resource options (not just therapy) and self-advocacy options are also discussed.
COURSE GOALS: To understand the importance of processing trauma and learning how to move past it in a healthy manner for successful outcomes. To understand how the avoidance of stress, law enforcement career trauma, personal life, financial responsibilities, family, physical and mental health, coping mechanisms, resources, and self-advocacy play an important role in being proactive during and after a Law Enforcement career.
