Officers will practice writing three sets of petitions based upon police bodycam footage and real-world mental health crisis situations. The training is designed to help officers feel more confident and perform more effectively when faced with the prospect of detaining and transporting individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
Peer-to-Peer Support Strategies:
A scenario-based training course where officers are compelled to push through their discomfort and hesitancy to intrude on a co-worker’s visible struggles and practice talking directly to a peer who (in the scenario) is battling through crises such as alcohol abuse, dating problems, or gambling addiction.
Officers must attend both sessions to earn ILETSB mandated credits.
*Funded in Partnership with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board / CIT grant.
