Course Description: This 16-hour course is designed to increase the officer’s knowledge of sexual predators, violent predators & psychopaths. The information presented will increase investigation, interview and interrogation skills. Students will receive in-depth instruction on the investigation and understanding of sexual predators, violent offenders, psychopaths, as well as crime victims’ response. The training will provide students with the skills and knowledge to effectively interview victims and perpetrators of sexual and violent crimes.
Goals include:
- Identifying & understanding the characteristics and typologies of the sexual offender and violent offender and identify forensic and clinical concerns, personality, offender strategies, grooming strategies.
- Understanding the role alcohol plays in sexual offenses & violent offenses.
- Understanding the role that pornography plays in reinforcing sexual offense behavior.
- Understanding the psychopathic abuser & psychopathic sexual offender.
- Understanding how to investigate, interrogate, and assess the sexual offender and violent offender and how to gather pertinent and invaluable information.
- Understand strategies to effectively interview sex offenders, including juvenile and adult male and female offenders, victims, and psychopaths.
- Learning to detect truth from deception via clinical interview & interrogation & how to effectively interview/interrogate the sexual offender & violent offender.
Instructor: Scott A. Johnson, MA, LP, has a Master’s Degree in Counseling & Psychological Services from St. Mary’s College. He is a Licensed Psychologist (Minnesota). He has over 33 years-experience addressing sexual predators as a forensic psychologist, author, educator, and police trainer. He trains and consults with law enforcement and U.S. Probation nationwide addressing sexual predators and violent offenders. He was involved in the civil commitment of sexual predators for the state of Minnesota for several years. He has taught at numerous colleges and universities. He is the author of several book chapters, booklets, research, numerous journal articles and other professional materials. Mr. Johnson is a forensic psychologist. He is a regular guest on Nancy Grace.
