Purpose of Course: This one day, 8-hour program has been designed by veteran IPMBA-certified instructors, each with more than a decade of experience instructing state certified police bike patrol training and IPMBA conference instruction across the country. This course will provide students with the techniques and skills necessary to transition from conventional bicycle patrol skills to e-bike patrol skills to safely perform duties and maintain the safety and security of citizens and property. Student officers will learn to use their departments’ specific e-bike to refresh and re-learn skills they previously learned on conventional bicycles.
This training program has been specifically designed to assist local, county, state and federal law enforcement personnel who have previously been trained in the 32-hour IPMBA Bicycle Patrol Course.
The goals of this program are to enhance the bicycle handling skills of the student and provide a basic understanding of the tactics, maneuvers, philosophies, and legalities associated with the use of the e-bicycle in law enforcement patrol situations.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Only law enforcement personnel who have previously been trained in the 32-hour IPMBA Bicycle Patrol course, within the last 5 years, OR previously trained and recently utilized on a regular basis on bicycle patrol. Officers must bring department issued e-bikes, bike patrol duty gear, safety gear (bike helmet, and eye protection). It is anticipated that these officers will have a working knowledge of bicycle patrol, and a mastery of the skills taught to perform satisfactorily in this higher speed e-bike training course.
Funded in Partnership with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board.
This training covers the following mandates:
- Legal Updates - 0.5 hours
- Officer Safety Techniques - 4 Hours (3.5 Hours Scenario-Based) hours
