Instructor: Glen Williams worked as a patrol officer, detective, and trainer at Sandy City Police and Utah Transit Authority Police. He has conducted trainings throughout the western U.S. for law enforcement and the public in scuba diving, police and evidence diving, underwater post-blast investigation, firearms, patrol rifle, active shooter response, First Aid/CPR, and has coached individuals in personal self-discovery and self-development courses. He is now teaching Bridging the Gap, An Inside Look at Communication and Relations. He retired after 26 years in law enforcement. Glen graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor's degree in psychology and is an author.

This course is designed to improve self-accountability, perception, and communication to improve officer’s relationships with their families and communities. This will aid officers working through PTSD, reduce divorce, suicide, and improve communication and relations within all segments of their communities. This interactive/participatory training focuses on self-discovered biases, masks, and defense mechanisms that have a negative effect on communication in personal and community relations. Participants will discover more effective methods to communicate thus reducing the effects of PTSD, divorce, and suicide and improving their community relations.

Course Objectives:
  1. Participants will identify behaviors, biases, perceptions, and internal fears that have a negative impact on personal and community relationships.
  2. Participants will identify traumas or events that are affecting/causing these behaviors.
  3. Participants will list ways and places to talk with and work through these traumas.
  4. Participants will demonstrate methods to prevent and redirect these negative behaviors.
  5. Participants will work through methods to improve personal and community relationships.
*This course is CIT/Mental Health grant funded by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board / CIT Grant.
